THIRTY-FIRST ANNUAL COEUR D’ALENE MARATHON OFFERS NEW COURSE STARTING AND FINISHING AT RIVERSTONE: North Idaho Centennial Trail welcomes Riverstone as title sponsor and host of the venue.

The North Idaho Centennial Trail Foundation and Riverstone are excited to announce Riverstone’s support as the title sponsor for the Coeur D’Alene Marathon. Starting and finishing in Riverstone, the 2008 race course, which formally was a double loop course will be an out-and-back throughout our beautiful city. Race director Mac Cavasar explains “this course guarantees more views and less repetition, making it one of the best courses we’ve ever seen.”

This year marks the 31st annual Coeur d’Alene Marathon, a race that has gained popularity and prestige throughout the years. Also taking place will be the 17th annual Half-Marathon and a 5K fun run to benefit the fight against ALS. ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a fatal neuromuscular disease which has no known cure. All proceeds from the 5K will support community supported patient service programs and internationally driven cutting-edge research towards a cure. The race is scheduled to kick off on Sunday, May 25, 2008.

The North Idaho Centennial Trail Foundation organizes the race and believes that Riverstone's involvement is a very positive step in preserving this wonderful event. “We are so thrilled to host this event, which is at the root of Coeur d’Alene's evolution into an endurance sport destination”, commented Riverstone Development Manager Dave Tomson. The North Idaho Centennial Trail runs right through Riverstone, Coeur d’Alene’s new and popular live, work, and play riverfront community which is made up of upscale condominiums, businesses, restaurants, as well as a 10-acre park and lake. Race director Mac added “It just makes sense to have the race here- we have all the amenities we need, such as parking, food, hotel accommodations and of course, the Centennial Trail.”

The 2008 Coeur d’Alene marathon will also be the Inland Empire USA Track Federation Marathon Championships in addition to the Road Runners Club of America State Championships, making for one exciting day. Add this to the fact that the 5K fun run will raise funds for ALS, and everyone comes out a winner. The 2007 races boasted 1509 runners total; representing almost every state and 2 countries. It can only be assumed that 2008 will be even more of a success.
